Jim Rogers is absolutely correct. It matters not whom helps fund this new
state of the art O&P program and proposed Academy Learning Center in
Florida.
The Academy again takes a lead in making this happen.
Lets not get distracted from the many controversies your field is facing
nor the crucial importance of establishing this school in the first
regulated state of Florida.
As pointed out in the recent Feb 15,2004 O&P Business News, presently there
is only one master's degree program in O&P in North America and
worlwide, there are only three academic O&P doctoral programs, none of which
are in the United States.
If you plan on continuing to stay on the correct course of transforming your
industry into a legitimate health care profession, you better provide more
educational opportunities in O&P.
Education is something that everyone can get behind stated Paul
Prusakowski.LPO and President of the Florida Association or Orthotists and
Prosthetists(FAOP) in a recent O&P Edge article.
The Barr Foundation has also offered financial assistance to Dr.Carl Kuttler
PHD ,president of St.Petersburg College and the O&P School, in exchange for
providing prosthetic rehabilitation to those qualified amputee applicants,
whom have no other resources of funding.
Jump on board! This is one time you need not look both ways first !

Well said Anne. The Florida school, St. Petersburg College, is one of the
most impressive institutions to come about excited about P&O education in a
long time. They have a fantastic distance learning infrastructure already in
place, and they are committed to this process for the betterment of our
profession. If we recall the banter several months ago before the recent
controversy, many folks spoke of the sacrifice necessary to successfully
complete the education/experience pathway to certification. Well.... here is
the solution. Jump on the train before it leaves the station without you.
Let's not focus on the ulterior motives of those that support the program.
Let's celebrate that someone stepped up to the plate and donated money to
see this become a reality. The Academy, Hanger you and I, whoever, all
should be behind this effort. Donations large or small, will not taint the
program's integrity.
We have a lot to do in a short span of time. Right now we need to spend less
time talking and more time acting.
My $.02 worth.
