Dear List
I have watched closely all the discussions on the recent ABC/BOC issues.
Those of you that know me know that I stood up at the AOPA meeting in Reno and
spoke in favor of the merger as long as the bar was raised for both groups not
lowered for anyone. The PTs we are all concerned about now have a Masters
level entry into the profession and are pushing for a minimal DPT.
The few people who were at the Neg Reg hearing that I attended to present
testimony that the PT/OT education was not the same as the ABC model which should
be the standard will attest to my concerns and interests.
I am concerned with the ethics and care we provide as an industry to those
who need our services. The actions of each one of us affects all of us as how
we are perceived by the public. This concerns me greatly in my chosen
profession. I was astounded by some of the responses to the initial coding question
and felt a comment was necessary.
I own my own practice in Massachusetts and practice as I preach. I learned a
lot about integrity in O & P from my previous employers and try to follow
their lead. To quote Keith Cornell code what you do and do what you code. I
would rather be paid a little less than even give the impression of creative
coding.
In response to S. K. Story's request here was my response to the initial
question.
Hi Troy
I would use an L1970, and L2200 for Limited motion (1 only) as it is only one
strap.
I would not code for the supramalleolar pad (L2275) however I will frequently
put in a valgus control strap as a (T) strap and bill that as an L2270.
I use a similar instep strap with a pad for most of my peds and do not charge
for it as I do not feel comfortable coding it as a T-strap. I code on the
conservative side. Harder to get in trouble that way. I can live with less
reimbursement.
