To all if Board Certified Orthotist's if I have
offended you with my last comment of the lack of
education difference for a mere 8000.00. I understand
how you feel, I will apologize for the comment that
was not right.
It does not matter how long I have been an amputee but
what does matter there is still a huge education
difference between the A CPO and BOC coming out of
college. I am not saying that either side is not well
educated either they are educated in similar fields
but unless they a cross trained properly in both
prosthetics and orthotics. They have very different
work environments.
I know from doing research and not a bad experience
from a BOCO. Take the Washington University Program
WA. To be accepted you must have a BA, BS in a medical
science field with a 95 attendance GPA standard of
3.75 better then recommend because last year they only
had 15 openings. When your done you must go into a
residency program and then if you want that ABC
standard you take the exams. Orthotist also go to
college in a science related field, work 3800 in a
orthotic environment with a proven competency
record.(that is meaning your required working your
job)takes the BOC exam is certified. Now they are
allowed to have CPO,CO, CP status where is the
comparison in the two? The only way is if they get
fully educated and not just given an open window of
opportunity
I will take up for my cpos they take the time at least
every 60 days to take a certified course in current
prosthetics. Then every year they are required to get
re-educated, exam ed to keep their certification.
I got a comment from an individual who had the Master
from Rutgers Univ. and is practicing orthotist and
prosthetist tell me that I under minded him, contrary
this individual took the time to learn both fields you
used them as one to help all.
I agree with all the CPOS this is not right way to do
the merger of the two. Its like the AMA putting
General Practitioner and Physician Assistant together
and saying your all doctors now.
I really do hope the bitterness gets resolved though.
