I think the only recourse of this insulting decision
is that for all CPO's to ask all the BOC's to refund
for your educational costs.
I want to add its pretty scaring when you think about
the ABCOP allowing qualified BOC's to become CPO
status when there is a huge education difference a lot
of amputees consumers do not realize the difference in
the credentials either one holds.
CPO are required to have a BA BS in a science related
field graduate with at least good standing GPA then
you have to be recommended to the only 18 facilities
left in the United States due to the cost of having
the area needed to properly train the Prosthetist.
Then you attend one year for prosthetics and the
following for orthotics. You have the residency
programs are required to complete and then it use to
be you had to take those fun exams to get your ABC
certification.
BOC are required to have AA or BA BS in any field that
is related to health science or prosthetics or
orthotics. They may have been a technician or work
under the supervision of a CPO for 3800 hours and with
a proven COMPETENCY, then they are allow to apply for
the the exams with no residency requirements or really
any prior knowledge of prosthetics devices but now
they can be a CPO if they have good standing with the
BOCUSA on 1/4/2004
I am not bashing the BOC's out there either.
Basically what the ABCOP is saying is A board
certified orthotist has the knowledge to make sound
decisions on all persons that might be a below knee,
above knee or bilateral amputee. All I need to do is
put some metal together with some orthotics on the
foot part sounds easy.
Remember COMPETENCY does not required much I think all
the CPO,LPO,FAACP
NEED TO EDUCATED ALL THE CURRENT AND FUTURE CONSUMERS
Just an opinion from a consumer
Kylee Haddad, just an amputee
