We are told that our biggest threat at present is PT/OT and that should be
our worry. Is it not that by opening the gates to BOC we are making it more
easy for them to practice O&P. They can be BOC certified and hence ABC by
throwing $75 to ABC.
Once again I would like to reiterate that this outrage is not against BOC or
their practioners. As some have pointed out that there are some truely good
BOC practioners as there are bad ABC practioners and I happen to know plenty
of them.. In fact many of the good BOC practioners would have been ABC
practioners had ABC not slammed doors shut on their face for so called
absolute standards. Those standards didnt last either.I know hundreds of
practioners who cant be ABC because their bachelors degree in O&P is not
good enough for ABC but good enough for every university in USA.
I was hoping that ABC would come up with the system where they could test
the practioners . The deserving ones would pass and the ones pretending to
know everything would be weeded out. The way the certificates are sold now
only ensure that we will soon see an ABC certified physical therapists and
pharmacists.
Does ABC denny that knowledge of anatomy is backbone for the O&P practice.
Have you seen how much of anatomy is included in BOC exams? Clearly the test
for BOC is technician oriented test as compared to Practioner oriented .
What we are going to see now is that all technicians becoming practioners .
Again I think every one including technicians deserve to be practioners but
through proper channel. That channel can only be education.
No body is sorry to have gone to school or having spent money on it but it
sure will be hard to see those standards compromised by less qualified
professionals and having to work alongside.
Here is a thought . How about counting experience for few years of education
and have everybody appear the test that we did with ABC. Federal Govt
applies same rule wherever they need education(for Immigration etc.)
Finally it seems to me that ABC has conceeded to BOC. If ABC thinks A BOC
practioner is equal to ABC then it is time they wind up and let BOC run the
show. It is a shame as I had visioned ABC to represent the O&P all over the
globe. I have practiced in many countries and I have seen how budding
practioners all over wanted to be ABC certified some day as it represented
an ultimate class in this profession . I myself happen to be one those
having come from thousands of miles to see if I fit in that league of
people. I thought I was the one of the first few but I may as well be one of
the last ones.
