Dear List,
I have seen threads running related to trips abroad with the intent to
provide prosthetic services. My question is related to transporting
items/materials through customs.
I am embarking on a trip to Ulan Ude, located in the Buryat Republic of
Russia. The trip will travel via Moscow. The purpose is to rekindle a
relationship with a local group of Christians in the region, provide two
transtibial prosthesis and make contacts with the local prosthetic
professionals, help establish a cottage industry for a group of deaf in
that region, as well as several other projects. We have been shuttling
diagnostic sockets via curriers as they come in and out of the region,
and lots of e-mail and photo's have helped get us to this point. My
question relates to the transport of hazardous materials through customs.
The prosthesis will be fabricated in the US, but the final fittings and
adjustments will be in Ulan Ude. I would like to take a small amount of
contact adhesive, locktite, along with the prosthesis and hand tools.
Any help, suggestions, experiences I can get will be of great value.
Thanks ahead of time,
Mike Madden, BOCPO, C.Ped
