Dear list subscribers,
A new virus has been cleverly disguised as a ZIP file named text.zip. In
the zip file is an executable file called text.exe.
Do not be fooled by this clever method of disguising a virus.
The file I received appeared to have come from myself- another trick used by
the virus to spread itself. The file is very small, and looks quite
inconspicuous. Do not extract or run any programs that are embedded in a
.zip file if you were not expecting them.
As always, when in doubt about an attached file that comes with an email
message, your best defense against viruses is to contact the sender and
confirm that they have sent you a message with an attachment. A lot of
these viruses will appear to come from people that you know, or even from
yourself.
If you know that you haven't sent yourself any email yet you find a message
from yourself in your inbox, you should not open the message in hopes of
finding a surprise from yourself. Just delete the message and you will be
much better off.
Take care.
I hope to see many of you in New Orleans at the Academy Meeting!
