After 22 years as a participating Medicare provider we are thinking of changing our status to non- participating. Does anyone know what we might gain or lose if we make the switch? So far, the only thing we have discovered is that as a non-participating provider, certain secondary claims may not cross over automatically. Our experience has been that this seems to be a hit or miss proposition anyway.
We still plan to accept assignment for large claims (which are usually covered by Medicare), but we hope to avoid having to pursue payments for low cost or non-covered items.
Comments from anyone who has made the switch, or is a non-participating provider would be most welcome.
