For the last couple of weeks I've been inundated with virus mailings that
appear to be coming from one source. This is not a major problem as my
anti-virus software is working well, but it is annoying. In addition I not
care for the idea that hundreds of virus emails are being sent out with my
email on the return address line. Current virus designs spoof the return
address by using an address from the infected computers address book as the
return address. While this does conceal the actual source of the virus,
given enough volume, it also provides clues about the source computer based
on the contents of the address book. It would appear that there is a good
chance that the person with the infected computer is in or near Tulsa, has
a family member with a drinking problem, is interested in Koi, gardening
and wildlife preservation. If this sounds like it could be you please
look at your outgoing mailbox. If you are surprised by what you find
there, please purchase a quality anti-virus software program and use it at
all times in the future.
I do apologize to the remainder of the listserv but this was the best way I
could find to reach the offending party. From the return addresses
involved I do know that a number of other list participants are also in
this persons address book and are no doubt also being bombarded.
The addresses from which I draw the above conclusions are below. I did not
include the O&P related addresses as they would be quite common on
computers subscribed to this list.
