Mark, Dr. John Masur and I wrote an article back in the eighties that was published in Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics. If you can't find a copy please send me your address and I'll mail you a copy. Terry

We see this here on a regular basis. We use Blount's braces.
Bilateral KAFO's with a single medial upright and varum corrected. They can be
done from a tracing or cast, all depends on if you rather use metal and
leather or plastic and metal. We attach ours to a straight last shoe
and put a medial outflare to prevent pronation.
We have seen correction on x-ray. Please let me know if you need
additional information and/or pictures of braces we have fabricated.

Hi Mark,
There is a brace called the blount's KAFO. It has a unilateral upright
with
a drop lock and a free motion ankle. You can probably find a picture
of it
on the internet.

I believe I would use a single upright (medially) with lock. Free
motion AFO
and knee strap/pad to place a valgus moment at the proper site.

Mark,
I have successfully used a single upright design I found in journal some years back. I will look for the article for you. I used elastic gusset material with a 30 percent circumference cuff for thigh and calf. Becker has a a pedi. knee joint if you need one.
The wide gusset material does a good job of pulling the limb into the sidebar. Drop me a note if you need more info.

Polypro KAFO single upright, medial bar, no knee joint, free motion
ankle,
molded thigh lacer, molded calf section, dynamic force strap at calf
section, straight last shoes. We see alot of these kids and have had a
good
success rate with this type of orthosis. Any questions just give me a
call.
