Final Announcement and Call for Papers
The Annual Scientific Meeting of ISPO Australia will be held at the
Bundoora Campus of La Trobe University from November 27-29, 2003.
Keynote Speaker:
The Keynote Speaker Professor is Charles Radcliffe, Professor Emeritus,
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Radcliffe has been involved in research in the field of lower
extremity prosthetics since 1948. Among the many pioneering contributions
he has made to prosthetics are the Patellar tendon bearing (PTB) socket,
the quadrilateral socket, the SACH foot and 4-bar linkage knee
designs. The title of Professor Radcliffe's keynote address is
Biomechanics of Lower Extremity Socket Fitting.
Pre-Conference Workshop:
Professor Radcliffe will also present a special pre-conference workshop on
Fitting and Alignment of a Four-Bar Prosthetic Knee with Pneumatic Swing
Control on November 26th and a lead scientific paper during the conference
on Biomechanics of Knee Stability Control with Four-Bar Prosthetic Knees.
Spaces for this unique workshop are strictly limited and will be filled on
a first-come, first-served basis.
Conference Themes:
Symposia covering a number of themes are being planned by the organizing
committee. These themes include:
Prosthetic sockets
Stance-control orthoses
Prosthetics and Orthotics education
Orthotic management of the rheumatoid foot
Head injuries
Quality assurance in P&O services
Partial-foot amputations
Pediatric prosthetics
Conference Venue:
The conference venue is the West Lecture Theatre Complex at the Bundoora
Campus of La Trobe University. The facilities include state-of-the-art
audio-visual facilities and a spacious adjacent foyer for the trade
exhibit, poster displays and delegate catering.
Call for Abstracts:
Papers related to any area of prosthetics, orthotics or rehabilitation
engineering, are invited. This is a very good opportunity, especially for
new researchers, to present their work in a friendly and supportive forum
in preparation for the World Congress of ISPO in 2004.
Presenting authors may choose to present either
a full podium paper (10 minutes presentation, 5 minutes discussion)
a short paper (10 minutes including discussion) or,
a poster.
All modes of presentation will receive equal weighting in the conference
proceedings. Reports of work-in-progress will be accepted for poster
presentations. More information on presentation formats is available on the
website.
Investigators who wish to present papers at the conference should download
the abstract proforma and abstract submission form from the conference web
site. Contact the secretariat if you do not have access to the web.
Completed abstracts should be submitted to the Convenor no later than
September 22, 2003.
Trade Exhibit:
Product manufacturers and distributors are welcome to participate in the
trade exhibit. Exhibition booths will be located adjacent to the main
lecture theatre. Lunches and morning and afternoon teas will be served in
the exhibition area. Companies interested in exhibiting should contact the
