ORIGINAL QUESTION:
What is your experience with the fee schedule software programs
available? I would like to be able to custom arrange the order of L
codes and create fee schedules with different percentage discounts. I
know AOPA has CodingPro and our MedFlex program has some capabilities.
What programs to you like and why?

RESPONSES: (separated by a blank line)

I simply pasted the M/Care fee schedule into an Excel spreadsheet. This
allows me to apply all the Excel tools to that file.

I have developed a program that creates fee schedules based on Medicare
pricing. When you run the program, you supply the Medicare State, Fee
Schedule Date, and Discount Percentage, then the program creates a file
that can be opened with many different programs including Microsoft
Excel.
For example, if you wanted a fee schedule that was 10% less than the
2003 California Medicare fee schedule, you would enter CALIFORNIA for
the state, JANUARY 2003 for the date, and 10% for the discount. You
would get a file with four columns in the following format
Procedure Code, Description, Medicare Price, Medicare Price - 10%
Once you open the file in Excel, you can make any specific changes you
wish.
If this is not what your are looking for, please let me know and we
will consider making exactly what you want.
This program, and our Patient scheduling module are two programs that
we give away for free. If you are interested, please contact us via
e-mail or phone, and we will send you a CD. Our primary product is
QuickPAS, a billing and collections package designed specifically for
the O&P world. We are giving away these smaller programs just to get
our name out. We are always looking for ideas for new software, so
please keep us in mind. If we use your ideas, you will certainly get a
free copy of the finished product.Jay Snider (502) 592-6413

I saw your post concerning the wisdom of tying insurance contract
allowables to the prevailing Medicare rate (making ME rethink our whole
contract situation!)...so I assume this is what you currently have in
place. Medflex can dial in and load the Medicare rates on your system
(alpha numeric only) and you can use the price manipulation utility to
get an allowable list for each individual contract. It is easy, quick
and fast and can be updated whenever need arises. On a pin printer on 17
you can get 6 insurance companies on a price list.

Well, I am anxious to hear the answers. Do you know if you are able add
and change your fees in the coding pro or does it simply give you the
codes? Seems to me that when I checked into that system a few years ago
you could not enter your fees. Looking forward to hearing the answers.

I am the co-author of the CodingPro and I think it will do what you
want.
Most people do not know how much flexibility they have with ordering the
codes and creating groups/headings.
If you have already looked at the fee schedule generation portion of the
program you probably have some idea.
If you have a special need I can give you some suggestions.
It would be nice to work with someone to push it to the limits. I think
with some effort to group the codes as you desire you can do most
anything you would want to do.
If not I would be interested to know what you are interested in to
determine possible future upgrades.

You can do all that with Medflex. You can also create billing templates
for frequently used coding combinations. call Brandi at Medflex she can
help you set up.

I am not familiar enough with billing capabilities of the softwares to
help much. Futura (727)791-3332 is the one that you could contact as ask
their
customer service staff if it could do what you are looking for. Don't
forget your OPGA discount with them as they are a member vendor.
Financing is also available. We sent out your patient care guide packet
for the clinics. Look it over and I'll touch bases with you at a later
date to see if there is any interest in hosting one in your area. Since
you would be the first in that corner of the country, you would be
placed first on the list of Preferred clients for Homelink referrals.

I have been very happy with Futura. We have used this program for
3years.
