US-Politics: NAAOP issues Immediate Call to Action
Text:
CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY!
At 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2003, Senator Blanche Lincoln, Democrat from
Arkansas, offered Amendment No. 959, which would create a three-year,
five-state demonstration project to assess the benefits of giving Medicare
beneficiaries DIRECT ACCESS TO PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES WITHOUT A PHYSICIAN'S
PRESCRIPTION. Earlier versions of this legislation also defined in statute that
a Qualified Physical Therapist would be considered a PT who was state
licensed. If this definition of qualified PT is included in the Lincoln Amendment and
then adopted by the Senate, it would clearly have a major impact on the ability
of PTs to also provide O&P services and would take precedence over whatever
compromise may emerge from the O&P Negotiated Rulemaking Process, which is soon
to be concluded.
CALL TO ACTION:
Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your two
Senators.
Ask them to VOTE AGAINST the Lincoln Medicare Amendment No. 959 on DIRECT
ACCESS to physical therapy services!!!
Tell them the amendment could negatively affect the provision of orthotic and
prosthetic patient care. It's that simple. Please take five minutes to call
your Senators today or as soon next week as possible. Thank you.
