Hi All
I would like to say a few words about this issue. I do agree with the
comments that there is a problem with contacting patients directly and interfering
with the referral, as I believe that the patient should always have a choice
without the choice there is no freedom. Staying with this thought, is it right
that Hanger patients do not have access to Ossür products? It is no good
focusing on one area when the problem is common to the industry. I think that before
this turns into a small war the problems need to be resolved. I would suggest
that it is time for the Associations and the Academy to step in and correct
these issues, a start would be a round table meeting of all parties and try to
resolve the issues internally before it is turned into a legal matter. This may
seem like a large task but if we are big enough to start problems we should
be big enough to sit around a table and fix the problems. Rules should be set
by which the industry operates and the objective should always be that everyone
has a choice, that nobody or institution should be controlled or have
control. This has become a political game and the loser is the patient which I
believe is contrary to our goal as Orthotists and Prosthetists.
Best wishes and good luck.
