Dear List Members:
I recently had an appointment to meet a new knee disarticulation patient, only to find out on examination that he is a very short transtibial, just superior to tibial tubercle level. He is able to weight bear on the distal end of the residual limb. He has approximately 80 degrees of knee flexion with grade 5 muscle strengths on the amputated side. Sound side is weakened by a hip replacement and has a ten degree plantarflexion contracture.
My colleague and I are planning to try a transtibial fitting using side joints and corset, but I would appreciate your input regarding a prosthetic prescription, socket modifications and your general experiences with this level.
Thank you,
Cathy McConnell B.Sc.
