I am looking for a definition of Clinical tool as it pertains to
Orthotics, but I suspect it would also apply to prosthetics. I believe
that our assessment skills and our assessment forms used to document
muscle strength, joint ROM, sensation, observational gait and ADL
assessment are part of our clinical tools. Items such as measurement
tape, goniometer, Semmes-Winnstein Filament and M/L calipers are tools.
To-day there are tools such as the digital camera, video-cameras and
CAD-CAM technology with their laser scanners and pressure meaurement
systems.
I wonder if any item or medium used to document/measure the clinical
picture of the patient is part of the clinician's Clinical Tool Kit.
That documentation can be used for future comparison or used for outcome
evaluation or performance of an orthotic device.
Anybody got an idea of a definition of Clinical tool and what items
should be part of the clinicians tool kit?
