Hello, everyone. We received several requests for the responses to the
question about distance learning options. Posted below are the
responses. Distance learning opportunities are increasing, and The O&P
EDGE plans to keep readers informed as we learn about them. One
promising new program that several persons mentioned is being offered by
the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

The University of New South Wales runs an internet B.Sc course through
the internet/distance education.
Email adress is <Email Address Redacted>
The uni is in Sydney Australia, and already is servicing OS students. I
know this because I am a student on this course.
University of Strathclyde
Miki, you might like to take a look at

Dr. Wu at the Center for International Rehabilitation in Chicago has
some distance CD's that would help your student.
Newington Certificate Program. Newington, Connecticut Has the only
Distant Learning Program I know of. Still in its pilot program.
There is no way to learn P&O at a distance, there must be hands on
learning. The best way for this person would be to find a person in his
country and have On the Job training.
England has a school that is distance learning project BUT it expects
the person to have knowledge of patient care and an on going medical
connections.
I am aware of O&P distance learning education programs at the Newington
Certificate Program in Newington, CT, and at the University of
Strathclyde
in Glasgow, Scotland. The Newington program offers a post-graduate
certificate and the program in Scotland offers a Master's degree. There
are specific prerequisites and other requirements. I recommend the
individual review the web pages of each site to learn more about each
program. The links are:

(click on post-graduate taught courses - this is the distance learning
program)
These are the programs I am aware however there may be others.
Hope this is helpful.
The AAOP is starting to do some online presentations of seminars,
contact them for information.
Miki, there is a new distance learning degree course at University of
New South Wales here in Australia.
While the course itself is new, the people involved are well
credentialled. I suggest that you contact Tim Jarrott (President AOPA)
to establish the best name for contact. He will have the direct e-mail
addy of the Dean of the school at the University.
Can you post the replies? I didn't get a chance to tell you about a
newly developed program at the University of New South Wales in Sydney
Australia. www.med.unsw.edu.au/prosthetics/ Not sure if this made it to
you from someone else?
