The O&P community will be interested to learn that the OPAF board of
directors recently adopted an official conflict of interest policy
statement, following best practices in both the for-profit and nonprofit
sectors.
The OPAF Board of Directors expects every member of the OPAF board, as
well as every OPAF staff member and volunteer, to sign and abide by the
OPAF Conflict of Interest Policy. In particular, OPAF board members,
staff members, and volunteers are required to avoid situations that
create even the appearance or perception of a conflict of interest, and
to disclose any relationship or arrangement with any third-party doing
business with OPAF, which has resulted or could result in a benefit,
financial or otherwise, to such board member, staff member, or
volunteer.
On behalf of the OPAF board and staff, I would like to thank our
attorney Stuart Crenshaw of Morrison & Foerster LLP for his pro bono
expertise in writing this important document to help us insure that
OPAF's integrity and its legal and financial liability are in compliance
with our IRS status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity. We
appreciate not only Mr. Crenshaw's generosity but also that of his firm,
which formally adopted OPAF in October 2002:
