Greetings List,
Thanks to the many that responded to my post about a transtibial amputee
patient that travels frequently by air and has trouble with his prosthesis
setting off detectors.
Here is an update: Before proceeding with a non-metallic prosthesis, we
needed to find out first if his ORIF hardware in his sound ankle would set
it off. To do this, he took off his shoe and passed his leg into the
detector while standing on his prosthesis. No alarm. Since the detectors are
cumulative measuring devices <URL Redacted>,
<URL Redacted>, We now need to see if he
can get his ORIF hardware through with his watch, belt buckle, and new
non-steel shank shoes. Since he cannot hop on his sound side, I want to make
a temporary, non-metallic prosthesis at minimal cost for him to use one time
to go through the detector. Any advice on how to proceed with this? I do not
want to proceed with a multi-thousand dollar prosthesis unless I know it is
going to work.
Thanks,
David Gerecke, CPO, FAAOP
