> The American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc., (ABC), reminds the orthotics and prosthetics community that the first deadline for the new Registered Fitter-Orthotics and Registered Fitter-Mastectomy is fast approaching. Prior to March 31, 2003 the initial application fee for these two credentials is waived. After March 31st the application fee is $20.00. Applications may be obtained on the ABC website at www.abcop.org < <URL Redacted>> or by calling ABC at 703-836-7114, ext. 229.

> During 2003 applicants will meet specific eligibility criteria to be credentialed. After 2003 the eligibility criteria will be expanded to include an examination.
>
> Eligibility Criteria for 2003:
> * Two years of fitter experience (minimum of 2,800 hours) under the supervision of an ABC certifee, or
> * One year of fitter experience (minimum of 1,900 hours) under the supervision of an ABC certifee in an ABC accredited patient care facility, or
> * A fitter credential awarded by a national orthotic/prosthetic credentialing organization, or
> * A fitter license issued by a state orthotic/prosthetic licensing board.

> Once credentialed by ABC, fitters will participate in the mandatory continuing education program, adhere to the Canons of Ethics and submit annual fees in order to remain in good standing.
