Greetings from Virginia-

I recently saw a patient that presented with a R humerus resection following a gunshot wound and a failed attempt to graft the area. He is now well healed (relatively speaking). The pt. has full use of his hand and forearm and actually has some control of his elbow and shoulder from the remaining muscles in his upper arm. The motion at the elbow results from an awkward buckling of the residual muscle mass.
I am simply interested in additional suggestions at this point. I have considered utilizing a Stanmore flail arm orthosis with a custom humeral cuff/vest w/o the cabling and terminal device. In addition, I have entertained the use of a LTI-Collier shoulder joint with a lateral upright, elbow joint, etc.. I would welcome past experience with these systems as well as similar patient experiences. I am also having trouble obtaining L codes for the Stanmore system - any advice in this area would also be welcome.

Thanks for your assistance,

Matthew J. Habecker, C.O.
