Mr.Young ,
I am happy to reply to your request below :
My personal, historical background and reasons for motivation can be researched on various links to the Barr Foundation's web site at www.oandp.com/barr
I have lead one of the few if not only non profit national organizations in this country that truly advocates for amputees, and assists in funding qualified prosthetists to provide rehabilitation to amputees whom have no other resources of funding.
The Barr Foundation has been able to provide this humanatarian assistance to over 700 amputees worldwide thru the joint efforts and generosity of our Hope Donor Members whom represent most of the manufactures of prosthetic components in the world, and over 100 sponsoring prosthetists nationwide .
As well as my own and my fathers tragic dillemas in searching for prosthetic relief, my personal motivation is partly generated from, on a far too frequent basis , hearing daily emotional pleas for help from amputees that either have no coverage, can't afford buy downs or co-pays for proper prosthetic rehabilitation, or have been the recipients of unqualified care.
More recently our organization has produced two surgical videos, titled The Ertl Procedure : Beyond the Bridge which documents prosthetists and patient testimonials related to the actual surgical procedure as a option for surgeons to consider performing.
I have personally been a mere consumer/patient of prosthetic services for the past 30 years, a Life Time Honorary Member of the Florida Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists and current committee member of the federally mandated, Negotiated Rules Committee which is assigned to develop a proposed rule for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS). mandated by Congress Section 427 of the Benefit Improvement and Protection Act of 2000. The purpose of the negotiated rulemaking would be to establish standards regarding making ,fitting and billing Medicare for prosthetitics and certain customized orthotics.
Other than that my enthusiasm could be attributed to also being a big fan of the O&P profession.
I nationally support and advocate for regulation for the qualified delivery of comprehensive O&P services as do most true professionals in this field !
Hope that helps you!
It helps me and alot of other people....Can we sign you up for a sponsorship or donation !!
