This is a follow-up and a bit of a reiteration to the post by Mark
Joyce, CO.
First of all, I want to publicly thank Mark for creating this
specialized forum. He has obviously put a lot of time and effort into
creating this. Compliance issues are a hot item right now and so many
of us have concerns and questions. There is only one point that I want
to reiterate and stress hard. When it comes to issues of compliance, it
is vital that the rules be followed exactly to avoid fraud & abuse and
ultimately to avoid fines, jail time and loss of credentialing. This is
not generally the case for patient care issues, but IS for compliance
issues. Facts are required for compliance issues, not opinions. Facts
need to be VERIFIABLE with a reference source. This is not the case for
most issues discussed on the OandP-L. Opinions are the norm here and,
in MOST cases, are quite helpful and appreciated. However, for the
compliance forum, VERIFIABLE facts should be the norm, not one's opinion
on what is right..
So, from the get-go, I ask that this new compliance issues forum be
fact-based (with good reference sources outlined for verification) and
not merely opinion-based. For those used to contributing to the O&P-L,
this will be quite a change..for the better, I hope! :-)
