The Academy will present its top awards at a special banquet on Friday night, March 21 during the Annual Meeting in San Diego, March 19-22. Sam E. Hamontree, CO, FAAOP will receive the Titus-Ferguson Award at the banquet. The award recognizes lifetime achievement in O&P and is the highest level of recognition by the Academy. It is bestowed upon an outstanding Academy member whose accomplishments and contributions have made a significant impact on the growth and development of the profession. With more than 45 years of accomplishment in the field Hamontree's list of achievements is a lengthy one. He was a founding member of the Academy, a past president of ABC, has served on boards and committees for the Academy, AOPA, and ABC, and has received so many awards they are too numerous to list here.
The Distinguished Practitioner Award will be presented to Dennis E. Clark, CPO for his dedication and leadership to the advancement of the O&P profession. Clark, with more than 20 years of experience in O&P, has been published many times in national and international publications and is a frequent lecturer at local and national O&P conferences. He is a past president of ABC and has served on the boards of the Academy and AOPA. He is also a lifetime member of the Amputee Coalition of America.
The banquet also honors the recipients of the Academy's other awards which are presented at the opening session of the meeting. The following individuals will receive these awards:
Clinical Commitment Award - Mike Allen, CPO, FAAOP
Clinical Creativity Award - Gary Horton, CO, FAAOP
Honorary Membership - Mark DeHarde
Outstanding Educator Award - Timothy Staats, EdD, CP
Reservations for the banquet are necessary and members are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. The family is welcome (for children under 12 a special meal is available for $15). Adult tickets are $50.
Complete information on the Annual Meeting is available on the Academy's website at www.oandp.org < <URL Redacted>>. The meeting will include 31 technical workshops and about 75 clinical sessions over four days and will offer 71 PCE credits to choose from. Most practitioners will be able to earn 21-24 credits over the course of the meeting.
The meeting will also feature information about Project Quantum Leap (PQL), the most important undertaking by the Academy in its 30-year history. PQL activities will benefit patients and move the O&P profession forward by documenting clinical standards of practice, encouraging students to consider O&P as a career choice, help the O&P programs obtain funding and encourage the development of applied research in O&P.
P.S. The temperature in San Diego today is 77 degrees.
