I will be seeing a 14 year-old male patient/client in the next week that
is diagnosed with Prune Belly syndrome. His physical therapist reports
that he is an active teenager but worries that between basketball
practice and soccer that he is at risk for internal injury with no
abdominal musculature to act as protection. She would like me to fit
him with some type of orthosis that would serve to protect his internal
organs, while not being too restrictive. There does not seem to be any
significant scoliotic curve formation as of yet, but he is being
followed by an orthopedic surgeon for scoliosis.
Is there anyone out there with any experience in this area? I would be
very open to any input.
