Dear all,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =

Following my communication last week with respect to conducting a knee
survey, I have had a number of positive responses which will enable this
work to be carried out. In the last two years working outside the prosthetic
industry, I have found many synergies between our industry and those of
other medical devices, but none is able to provide the same level of
technical capability and complexity of challenges combined with the family
spirit within a community which keeps people involved for the rest of their
time. I also gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between the
role of marketing and the users' needs by establishing a procedure which
helps to make the key issues known.
For the construction of a knee survey, obviously there are many important
factors such as amputees' needs for various functions, weight, reliability,
physical size, ergonomics of adjustment and user interfaces of the knee; the
prosthetists' and clinicians' need for training, ease of assembly, ease of
adjustment, cost and durability, servicing and maintenance and capability of
tailor-making the best prescription to maximise rehabilitation process. I
propose to construct an electronic survey which will be available on the web
in January 2003 with a discussion of the main issues and findings during a
live web chat conference in February 2003. In that way we may all be able to
discuss some of the findings and express our views which may enable us to
enhance our understanding of the needs and how we can satisfy the
requirements of future. I look forward to your participation.
With best regards
Saeed
