I've been following some of the links and ideas on John Michaels' Corner
from the December column. The mention of a 3D printer for the production
of prosthetic sockets intrigued me. The printer mentioned in the
presentation he's discussing costs $33,500.00. Not that this is cheap but
when I was shopping CAD systems the carvers were in the $50,000.00 range
(For the Benz). Seems that it might be worth looking into this as an
alternative if you are in the market for a carver. They offer a free 3D
print made from your data file so you could check it out at no
cost. It's much slower than a carver so that would have to be a
consideration as well.
If you try this out let me know your impression of the results please.
