I want to personally express my thanks and appreciation to Tom Watson and
Rudy Becker for their long term and successful commitment to this endeavor.
The positive effects for the O&P field and staff members of O&P companies --
and most importantly, O&P Patients/Clients -- cannot be adequately
expressed. The benefits are just too numerous to list. And with anything
this way, the side benefits sometimes can be even more important than direct
issues.
Rudy and Tom -- again, my sincere thanks and appreciation for all you have
give us through the O&P PAC!

U.S. Politics: The O&P PAC Explained
In AOPA's ongoing effort to establish and develop relationships with key
lawmakers on Capitol Hill who are friendly to O&P issues, the O&P
Political Action Committee (O&P PAC) earlier this week co-hosted a
health care-only fundraising event for Sen. Blanche Lambert Lincoln
(D-AR). We spent more than 2 hours discussing Medicare issues with Sen.
Lincoln and her staff which is opportune because Lincoln sits on the
Senate Finance Committee.
The O&P PAC is the only political action committee solely dedicated to
representing and supporting the interests of the O&P community. Events
such as the Senator Lincoln meeting provide AOPA an excellent
opportunity to make lawmakers aware of the profession's concerns and
press for much needed change on issues such as competitive bidding, the
elimination of orthotic services from the Medicare skilled nursing
facility prospective payment system, increasing the Medicare O&P fee
schedule update and reducing Medicare's regulatory burden on O&P
providers.
AOPA thanks O&P PAC co-chairs Tom Watson, CP and Rudy Becker for their
continued efforts to raise awareness and funds for the O&P PAC. As you
can imagine, this is not an easy job. Due to their long-term
commitment, the O&P PAC raised more than $60,000 this year. These
contributions have given AOPA a stronger voice on Capitol Hill and made
us competitive with the much larger health care interest groups who are
fighting for the same piece of the Medicare pie as we are for O&P. We
would also like to recognize those O&P professionals who have
contributed their hard-earned personal money to the O&P PAC. Please
check out the December issue of the O&P Almanac to see the current list
of O&P PAC contributors.
If you have any questions about AOPA's fundraising activity or would
like to learn more about the O&P PAC, please call Walt Gorski, AOPA's
director of legislative affairs, at (571) 431-0809.
Rudy Becker for their long term and successful commitment to this endeavor.
