Friends,
Thanks to every member of AOPA who helped to make the Fund’s presence at
the 2002 AOPA National Assembly such a success. The support we received
through our ever-popular fundraisers will be vital in helping us sustain
our program growth into 2003. Thanks to everyone for helping us enable
individuals with physical disabilities - especially those served by
members of the orthotics and prosthetics community - to enjoy the
rewards of personal achievement, physical fitness, and social
interaction.
Formal thank-you letters to everyone will be on their way shortly. In
meantime, here are some fundraising event highlights...
On Wednesday, October 9, over seventy golfers gathered at Ruffled
Feathers Golf Club to support the Fund and its initiatives.
In regular competition, first-place honors went to the team of Dan Cox
(College Park Industries); Sada Kameda (College Park Industries); Geoff
Nicholas (College Park Industries); and Eric Robinson (College Park
Industries.) The second-place team included Tom Beall, CPO (Valley
Orthopedic, Inc.); Kevin Hawkins, CP (ABi Orthotic and Prosthetic
Labs.), Ltd.; Rick Stapleton, CP (Tidewater Prosthetic Center, Inc); and
Tom Watson, CP (Tom Watson’s Prosthetics & Orthotics Labs, Inc.) Third
place honors were awarded to the team of Frank Bostock, CO, FAAOP
(Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics); Eric Johnson (Replacement Arts
Designs, LLC); John Selbt, CP (Illiana Orthopedics, Inc.); and Lee
Shirer (Replacement Arts Designs, LLC.)
Bill Nolin, CO (Precision Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc.) hit the
shortest drive. Chris Hunsaker (Personal Performance Medical
Corporation) won the longest drive contest, sponsored by Össur, but also
won the closest to the pin contest for the men, sponsored by College
Park Industries. Betty Fillauer (The Fillauer Companies) won the closest
to the pin contest for women. Dave Janke, (Orthotic Prosthetic
Associates, Inc.) won the longest putt, sponsored by Össur, and Tim
Rayer, CP (Prosthetic Orthotic Solutions) won the straightest drive.
Thank you to all tournament sponsors. Without your support this event
would not have been possible. Thanks to our hole sponsors for their
generosity: College Park Industries, Kingsley Manufacturing Company,
Össur, and Scheck & Siress. Thanks also to the American Orthotic and
Prosthetic Association, College Park Industries, Footcomfort, and Becker
Orthopedic for their contributions to our gift bags.
The Fund also extends thanks to our event volunteers, Cindy Cowart,
Atlanta Prosthetics & Orthotics Inc., OPAF’s Golf Committee – Don Hardin
(Otto Bock Healthcare), Joel Kempfer, CP, FAAOP (Kempfer Prosthetics and
Orthotics, Greenfield, WI), Eric Robinson (College Park Industries)—and
the entire staff of Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. Thank you all for
helping to make this event fun for everyone!
Join us again at the next OPAF golf classic, to be held in San Diego on
Wednesday, March 19, 2002, in conjunction with the AAOP Annual Meeting.
Complete course information will be available soon.
