Title:
L5667 and L5669
Text:
After the discontinuance of codes L5667 and L5669, per Medicare ruling, a 3
month grace period was allowed for use and payment if dates of service were
within this time frame (approx. 1/02-3/02.)
As a major insurer Blue Cross Blue Shield followed suit and also deleted
these codes on 1/1/02, and have NOT replaced them with substitute
codes..(unlike the current Medicare temporary K codes).
Consequently, they neither recognize the Medicare codes during this grace
period nor do they have replacement codes.
Has anyone been denied secondary payment from Blue Cross Blue Shield for
these codes during this time period ...have you had success collecting...or
appealing?
What have you found BCBS to be currently using as replacements for
L5667-L5669?
As usual, this took over 8 months of yes-no, we don't know, maybe
run-arounds to finally get a rejection!
Any comment or advice is appreciated
