Title:
Tech tip- Better than a cast saw in many situations
Text:
I have been using a pneumatic reciprocating saw to cut plastic and laminates
off of plaster and foam models. It is easily controlled and its a very
affordable saw.
It is a saw sold as a sheet metal cutting saw and they can be purchased for
around $100 US
Husky is one brand, Porter Cable another and I am sure there are more.
The blades that are meant for them have very fine teeth for sheet metal.
I use reciprocal Sawzall blades 48015162 or Lenox blades or equivalent. The
tang needs to be modified so that it will fit the saw. I do this on the drum
sander or grinder by taking down the distal thin tang and grinding some of
the proximal teeth so it will fit deeper into the receiver.
This saw is a lot faster and cuts around corners easier and can be held in
one hand.
I believe you need a good compressor for it .
