I counted 20 workshops in Düsseldorf and Dortmund, there is the School for
Orthopaedic Technology (BUFA) and the German Trade Association (BIV) in
Dortmund. I believe advice would be there if needed.

However there is little information about the patients situation. Is he a
resident or just a visitor, a refugee or else? Generally, Germany social
services provide extensive coverage for all kind of disabled and it would surprise
me if he has no access to any of them.

The German consumer protection law makes the use of not factory guaranteed
components (used) a financially risky business. If the patient returns back to
Iran/Iraq never to complain, then you might find a colleague, otherwise
nobody will touch used components.

Again, Germany is a well regulated country (as many of you expect!). Prices
are high and to undercut them is not appreciated by the trade organisations.
This might be different if this is a foreigner coming to Germany just for the
purpose to be fitted with artificial limbs.

I know of colleagues who help in former Yugoslavia, in Africa etc. to the
extent of no charge at all. But this means that local law is applicable and
they are really needy without any insurance cover.
