The replies have come in and the PDI lock is the clear favorite with Ossur smooth pin lock and Otto Bocks smooth pin lock a close second. There were random suggestions of various other locks all receiving only one or two replies each. I am going to try the PDI lock and the Otto Bock smooth pin lock on some prostheses soon and hope they work out well. I thank all of you that responded.
Here is the original posting:
I am interested in opinions on locking mechanisms that are easy to unlock.
It is a common scenario that the prosthesis dons easily and then when the
patient sits down to doff the prosthesis they need a hammer to release the
pin from the lock. I have been using all the familiar methods such as to
not bent the knee to 90 degrees, push down on the knee to release some of
the pressure, etc... Lets face it, some people just are not able to doff
their prosthesis no matter what they try. So far the easiest lock to
release that I have found is the Coyote lock due to the low coefficient of
friction of delrin on delrin. I know of many types of locks but have not
nor can not try them all. If someone out there knows of a reliable lock
that is easy to release PLEASE let me know.
