On September 27, 2002, the Barr Foundation's South and Central America
Project Coordinator, Eddy Fuentes CPO, successfully completed a bilateral
amputee's prosthetic rehabilitation in Chile.
42 year old bilateral amputee, Waldo Valdebenito, whom lost both legs below
the knee to a railroad incident, was provided new prosthetic components
donated by Otto Bock Healthcare.
Eddy and local Chilean prosthetist, Miguel Figuero, whom sponsored this
individual for the BUAAF ( Barr United Amputee Assistance Fund),
administered by UASA (United Amputee Services Association) provided the
professional application of the prosthetic rehabilitation at no cost to the
recipient.
The funding for travel and living expenses were donated to the Barr
Foundation by a humanitarian group of individuals coordinated by the
recipient's sister,Yanette Hansen and Debra Henry of the state of
Washington.
We thank Otto Bock Healthcare, our newest Where Hope Meets Help Donor
Member, whom graciously donated all the components and supplies for this
individual effort.
The Barr Foundation continues their assistance efforts for amputees located
worldwide.
To date over 700 amputees have been successfully rehabilitated in 43 states
and 8 foreign countries.
Those subscribers or O&P media that would like photos sent to them, please
