Thanks for the responses to my request for information on the Alzner
Effect.

Several pointed out that I just had to watch cable to see loads of
commercials for the Good Foot stores which sell these devices. Makes me
wish I had cable;-).

Apparently they are 1/2 hour advertisements making outrageous claims of
relief for foot problems and that they were designed by a World Renowned
Podiatrist.

One gave a link to their website showing the devices:

One gave a description: 'Just a PE prefab. Semiflex. arch shell with
spenco top cover that just lays on top. They are ok for normal feet.'

Another description: It is basically a OTC shoe insert that is much
like a Spenco or Dr.Scholl type of liner. From what I have observed, it
is nothing more than some silicon like gel pre-fabricated with a arch
support and perhaps a metatarsal elevation, manufactured in where you
might expect one to be.

Apparently the fitter takes an impression with a foam box and fits the
closest OTC device to the impression.
