Hello everyone!
I have a patient with a R AK prosthesis on which I am trying to do some
repairs. He moved into my area so I did not make this leg for him but am
replacing the hydraulic unit in the knee plus some other minor things. My
question concerns his socket. He has a flexible inner Sabolich socket and a
laminated frame. He wants us to trim the posterior proximal trimline saying
that it is too high, sticks out of his clothes, and is irritating. I
don't know very much about this type of socket and so am reluctant to trim
anything. There is no problems that I can see but he is rather insistent.
Perhaps someone can give me some guidelines as to what the height of the
posterior brim should be so I can check that, how low the trimline can go,
and problems I may run into into lowering it. As I said, I would just as
soon not trim anything, since I didn't make the socket. If nothing else, I
can tell him how this might affect the fit and let him decide for himself.
Also, any other ways to resolve these problems would be appreciated.
Thank you
Paula Martinek, L.P.O.
