Hello everyone
We are in the ongoing process of reviewing our funding of orthotics here
in Ontario with regard to how services are provided. This includes
everything from replacement criteria to prescription requirements. We
would appreciate any feedback from other parts of the world as to how
funding is regulated and what is required to get funding approval for
the different device catagories. Most interested in hearing whether the
requirements differ amoung the various States in the U.S as well as
Europe, U.K. and Australia.
Thank you in advance for any info. you can provide on the following:
1)Do you require a Specialist Physician's prescription for an orthotic
device to qualify for funding? Will a Rx. from GP due?
2) Are the requirements different for different device levels? ie.
lower, spinal or upper extremity.
3)Is the signature of a Physical or Occupational Therapist along with
that of the Physician and CO ever required?
4)How do you handle Rx. in areas where access to the appropriate
physician is limited or non-existant?
5)Are there time restrictions or other qualifications for replacements?
Are they different for a child than an adult?
Thanks again for your help.
