Thank you very much for all the responses on sources of sandscreen.

There are a lot of options out there. Here is a summary:

Here you can get double the quantity for less than ½ the price:

Contact McMaster-Carr 630-833-0300. The prices are as follows for
Silicone Carbide Sandpaper Sheets (a.k.a. 3M Wetordry Fabricut as
described in PEL Catalog, pg. 219) In the new #108 McMaster-Carr
catalog, page 2501:

180 grit, $29.92 per 50 sheets, catalog #4681A17

120 grit, $33.71 per 50 sheets, catalog #4681A19

80 grit, $44.92 per 50 sheets, catalog #4681A22

I also find them useful and less expensive when buying tools, heavy
equipment (i.e. sanders, grinders), screws for use in endoskeletal
componentry, drill bits, sanding sleeves, etc... The list goes on.

-Go down to your favorite local paint store, not K-Mart or Home Depot,
but where the pros go. :) You should be able to find all the sand
screen that you desire. They even carry it in different grits. Been
buying mine there for 12 - 15 years now.

-I have found Auto Body supply houses to be a great source to our trade.
I purchase all of our Masking Tape, Hand Cleaner, AND DURITE sanding
screen from them. I know NORTON is the manufacturer and you might get a
better deal on the internet straight from the manufacturer. I to was
amazed at the per sheet price from our oanp suppliers.

-Go to your local building center and look for Plaster sand screen for

drywall applications. You will still have sticker shock-just not as bad.

-McMaster-Carr (562)692-5911 or www.mcmaster.com

It's a great catalog to have.

www.supergrit.com

-Not sure which price you were looking at but take a look at

www.mcmaster.com enter Silicon Carbide Screen Cloth in the search

field. I admit it's about $1.80 a sheet but a sheet lasts a loong

time. I've been working out of the same package for YEARS.

Out of curiosity I took a look at the cost per square inch for the

different forms, roll, sheet, etc.

9x11 sheet is 0.0164 per square

1x25 yd roll is 0.0222 per square

2x25 yd roll is 0.0411 per square

4x25 yd roll is 0.0199 per square

I thought the roll might be cheaper but clearly it isn't.

-You can buy sanscreen in a roll thats about 5 wide x 10 ft.,yds,
meters,

miles????? Call Steve Lafond at 978-683-5229

-Try Grainger, they have a great catalog..You may even find some other
things you can save

on.Vacuum Pumps,Gloves,Rubber Tubes, Hand Tools..All kinda things....

-A reasonable substitute is flyscreen wire either the brass, aluminium
or nylon types...works well, lasts for ages and can be bought in huge
rolls.

-I get my sandscreen from a local building supply that stocks it for
drywall and plaster tradesmen. It's not much more than the cost of
regular sand paper and it can be bought in individual sheets right up to
the 25 contractor pack. Check out you local home depot or Lowes.

-Not all sandscreen is equal! We got some from some supplier (sorry - I
don't remember brand or supplier) but it fell apart really fast. 3M
screen is WAY better quality and lasted twice as long as that brand X
product.

- 100 grit-25 sheets per pkg.-product # 4677A18 - $45.12 per pkg. - 5
pkg.

quantity.

I'm sure cheaper stuff is available, but if all the abrasive goes down
the

drain when you rinse it, you'd come out a lot cheaper using much cheaper

using window screen.
