Dear list,

Patient: 10 years old girl, a unilateral BE amputee, traumatic amputation sustained at age 1; residual limb is fairy long - epycondyle to distal end of RL=8, distal RL to distal thumb = 6, patient has full forearm rotation. Since then she always had standard body powered prostheses. I am planning to try to fit her with a myoelectric system. I took MyoBock course, but many years ago (in 1993), and I am aware of numerous changes in design and componentry, that is why I am planning to take a refresher course in September. However, due to insurance red tape, I want to generate a prescription and start authorization process immediately. Therefore, here are some questions and a request:

1. From your experience, if someone lost her/his arm at such a young age, are you able to obtain a myosingnal strong enough for operation of a prosthesis? If not, then does training help?

2. What complete prescription would you recommend?

Thank you in advance for help.
