Good afternoon list members,
I have an 18yr old male trauma patient with multiple involvements including R AKA,R AE, L LE femoral fracture, L UE nerve damage, stroke, and on it goes.
The R AE is my question. He has only shoulder elevation. He presents symptoms of a brachial plexus injury (Surgery Services won't confirm, only suggest). He has a clavicle fracture with complete separation. The parents are wondering if surgery for the clavicular reattachment will improve his chances for UE prosthetic use. The procedure here would be novel for the attending surgeon. At this time, there is such extensive damage and grafting that normal UE prosthetics seem a very wishful option. I have to accentuate the positive so I promised I would run the question by my international consortium of colleagues.
Thanks for your expertise.
