Here is a compilation of the responses I received to date for carbon
inserts. I would like to thank all of you who took the time to respond.

Our company, Atlantic Innovations can fabricate carbon inserts for turf toe
and other conditions that are best served by a rigid orthosis. We are a
central fab, but have a clinical component that works with professional and
college athletes around the country. You can send molds to us, or if you
feel
your practice could benefit, use our computerized scanner and modem your
files to us. We then can fabricate an entire range of single and multiple
density inserts. If you are interested, e-mail me back or give Kevin Miller
or I a call at 432-697-0057. Thanks.
I get mine from Otto Bock or Vittoria Phoenix. They work great!
Apex makes some for this purpose. The thing that I don't understand
about their product is that with HR, the toe dorsiflexion is limited and
their prefab carbon plate has about 5 degrees of dorsiflexion in it.
Their reasoning for doing this is that it provides a rocker sole.
I haven't used them on anyone because most HR patients can't tolerate
that much dorsiflexion.
I recall also another place having carbon plates. Vittoria Phoenix
distributes them in Canada (where I am), but I do not recall the company
in the US that is a manufacturer of them. I hope that this is a help.
JMS Plastics supply carries a sheet called J-Turf, 24 x 36. You can cut
your own insert's. Call us at 1-800-342-2602 for a sample.
SPS has some from NRG that compete with the Springlite inserts. They
are heat moldable as well.
We make custom foot orthotics with full Morton's extensions for hallux
rigidus and turf toe. We usually use 4mm subortholen as the device is
going
into a sneaker. Also subortholen will not crack. The devices can be
fabricated from a regular orthotic foot cast or impression foam. If you
have
any questions please feel free to call us,

We just had a representative from SPS visit us and she show us some inserts
that are made from carbon but are more moldable.
Springlite, which is now part of Otto Bock, has a Morton's toe extension
carbon foot plate, too.

Vittoria Phoenix [(800)563 1296] out of Ontario Canada has a plate with
Morton's extension.
