Dear list,
I received the following request, and would like your suggestions. I have
not seen this patient…yet. Your help appreciated.
…thought you might have a vendor who could custom make a corset for my 84
y/o aunt, who has been wearing a corset since she was 16 (for back
problems-they did that back then) and really cannot function without one.
Hers are seriously wearing out and she has lost her source as they went out
of business. I'm sending you the list of information she sent me and you
can cull out what you need to know. The most important thing is the front
closure as her arms are short, she lives alone, and cannot fasten it in the
back herself for the snug fit she needs. I do so appreciate your being
willing to see if indeed you do have a vendor to help her out. I have
alerted her that she may need a doctor's prescription. She had one months
ago, took it to a DME place and all they did was keep her prescription and
show her a bunch of catalogs that didn't meet her needs.
Waist 38
Hips 43
Dress size 18
Weight 172
Color white
Cloth: broadcloth
Double stays
4 hose supporters (garters)-optional(she's used to having them but we have
an alternative if not available)
Back length 16
Front length 13 ½
Front laced with hook and eye strip behind lacing
Front stays 7 ½
Side stays 9 and 13
Back stays 14 ½
2 elastic at top, both left and right (none in back)
Elastic triangles at both sides of lower front, 3 ½ at bottom, 4-6 to apex
(these presumably are at the tops of her thigh area to make sitting more
comfortable?)
