I have recently found out with direct contact with the Medicare Region A
office, that indeed L4396 with specifically intended to cover the
PRAFO/MULTIPODUS boot which used to be L4310. Their descriptor is accurate
for the pressure relief of heel ulcers, as well as ankle contractures. The
procedure for electronic billing is as follows:
1) ICD9 code 250.80 or appropriate code indicating a heel ulcer.
2) L4396
3) GY modifier
4) Narrative line indicating the location of the ulcer
This will get you your reimbursement, and you won't have to use the ankle
contracture ICD9 code.
