Sorry if I stirred the pot with my request for a tech. Just for the record not only do I have the gall to ask a tech to modified molds I myself am not certified and oh!!! the shame and disgrace I bring to the field. If that's not bad enough I own my business and I am a contract provider with a major teaching hospital as well as all major insurance companies. I need a tech to help because my business keeps growing, not because I go out and steal work from good certified people, but because doctors and PT's and patients keep asking me to do their work. Why? well they are not happy with the work that some of you are doing. They think I am a team player, a problem solver. I make there jobs easier. I have been in the field close to 24 years the first 18 I worked for certified provider. They used me to see patients, modified molds, manage their work force, update their technologies as in computer records and billing, and grow!!! there businesses. Some of my past employers may even take the stand that only certified persons should see patients. The truth is most business have non-certified people seeing patients. Most business would not be in business if that was not so. I survive because I provide a good service and people see the value in what I do. I think we as a group have lost sight that we only stay employed as long as the patients and medical community need us! They are not there to serve us we are obligated to prove every day to them that we deserve to have their trust. The funny thing is even after 24 years of working twice as hard and getting paid half as much as some of my co-worker I think ABC certification is the way to go maybe we just need to look harder at what that should mean.
