Dear list,

I have been invited to join the board of a committee at our local
hospital and rehab that is putting together an amputee protocol.
Although just beginning, the goal is to establish a standard protocol
that MD's are to follow so that each patient receives consistent quality
of care. We have had several patients kind of get lost in the system
where they are sent home after an amputation and basically forgotten.
They arrive at my office 6 weeks later having not wrapped or worn a
shrinker and usually with a flexion contracture because they were not
properly advised to continue their exercises at home and were not
followed (and etc, etc, etc). Some MD's are better than others. So, a
standard protocol would be very beneficial.

Our first meeting is at the end of this month and I was wondering if
anyone out there has any experience with this. Does anyone possess a
protocol sheet taking the amputee from the surgical recovery room
through prosthetic gait training?

Namaste.
