Title:
375lbs TT amputee
Text:
Something I am sure most of you in the United States have faced with our
overweight population. Looking for suggestions on a 375lbs TT amputee
currently wearing an OWW Magnum system with Iceross Dermo pin liner for
suspension. Sleeve or waist belt and forkstrap suspensions have been
unsuccessful.
Pt is limited ambulator using prosthesis mostly for transfer from a
wheelchair when needed, and is now have complications with the sound lower
extremity.
Problems noted with this arrangement is of course distal tribal breakdown,
and pulling on the distal end of residual limb with accompanying
complications when sitting unsupported in the wheelchair with the prosthesis
dangling. One easy solution would be to remove the prosthesis however this
then limits transfer ability when needed. Looking for a prosthetic solution
that the Pt can be compliant with.
The TEC Harmony system comes to mind however the Pt. exceeds the weight
restrictions. Thinking of a double socket (slip-socket type arrangement) with
an expulsion valve. However this concept is usually for a joints and corset
prosthesis.
Would be interested in hearing how others have addressed this problem in the
past. A waist belt and forkstrap suspension has worked with other cases.
