Dear oandp-l,
The virus that I described last week has recently disguised itself in a
message sent to me as message from oandp-l at <Email Address Redacted>
THIS MESSAGE DID NOT GO TO THE ENTIRE LISTSERVER SUBSCRIBER BASE, it
came directly to my mail box.
Regarding the messages that have been masqueraded as from the listserv,
if you get any messages in your mail box from someone with the name
oandp-l, NOT THE SUBJECT LINE, but the NAME.. do not open the
message. There is no subscriber to oandp-l with the name oandp-l. This
is apparently the virus at work.
This new virus is VERY sneaky, and disguises itself as being sent from
other people, even yourself. So please be careful with any messages
that come through to your box that have strange subjects that don't
watch what you would expect from people you know. Do not open
attachments that you are unsure of.
This emphasizes the need to clarity in your subject lines, messages, and
signatures. Viruses can only attempt to create a message that looks
authentic. By taking the extra minute to craft a good and thorough
subject line for your messages, be descriptive in the body of your
messages, and using good signature lines at the end of your messages you
will make sure that your messages get read and do not get deleted before
being opened. Also, if you ever send attachments to anyone, be sure to
let the recipient of your message know that there was supposed to be an
attachment in your message.
Take care,
