It is with a deep sense of sadness that I report the passing of AOPA Past
President Carlton Fillauer on Monday, April 8th at the age of 82.

Considered by many to be one of the forefathers of the modern orthotics and
prosthetics profession, Carlton's contributions have been many.

Throughout his career, Carlton designed numerous products that advanced the O&
P professsion.

He had high professional standards and was among the first class of
practitioners to be certified by ABC.

In addition, he was a strong supporter of the national O&P organizations.
From 1957-1958, he served as president of ABC. From 1962-1963 he served as
president of AOPA. He was also a charter member of the Academy since 1971.

Committed to the development of educational programs, Carlton acted as an
adjunct instructor for New York University and Northwestern University's
short term O&P courses from 1968-1975.

A prominent figure in the O&P industry, Carlton was recognized for his many
achievements. AOPA bestowed him with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
In 1991, the Academy awarded him its highest honor, the Titus-Ferguson Award.

On behalf of the AOPA Board and Executive Committee I express our condolences
and sadness at his passing.

Contributions in honor of Carlton Fillauer may be made to the Alexian Village
Foundation, 100 James Blvd., Signal Mountain, TN 37377.

David C. Schultz, CPO
AOPA President
