Dear Colleagues,
Below you will find the responses I received for my inquiry. As you
will note I did not receive much information regarding compliance
consultants. Please note that only one group named Health Care
Compliance was mentioned.
On that note I am reposting my original post in blue below (hopefully to
obtain a few more responses) with the responses I received below that.
I appreciate any further assistance the list could provide.
Chris Lake, CPO, FAAOP
Original Post:
I am researching compliance consultants and would appreciate any
feedback the list could provide.
Specifically, I am looking for a well rounded program - not just chart
documentation. Hopefully these programs would incorporate techniques to
address medicare issues, HIPAA compliance, and illustrate a proactive
type of approach to compliance.
I am aware that there are at least two HIPAA compliance kits offered -
one from the Academy and one from AOPA. I have been told that these two
kits are different, but I find the reasons I was provided are not
necessarily objective. Any feedback regarding these two compliance
kits
Thank you in advance for your assistance with these issues.
Sincerely,
Chris Lake, CPO, FAAOP
Responses:
(1) You need to talk to Sheila Press at Healthcare Compliance
Solutions. She
used to be compliance officer for NovaHanger and is quite an authority
on
these topics. Her company sell a complete package and offer auditing
software (which is awsome) and telephone support. They also mail out
separate updates throughout the year.
Give her a call at 480 998 1862(w) or 480 391 1931(h).
Good Luck and tell her I told you to call!!
(2) You have brought-up a very good point in our field; that of
conflicting
requrements for the O + P facility. Pleasebe so kind as to post your
findings.
(3) Our State Association is planning a one-day seminar on this in May
or
June. You can contact Carl D Brenner, C.P.O., President
E-mail Address(es):

(4) Please post your responses, as I am also interested in the
differences.
(5) Chris will you post the responses, thanks.
(6) I got your message yesterday regarding the Academy's HIPAA
Compliance CD package.
To be honest with you, I am not aware of AOPA's HIPAA Compliance
product. I know that they are coming out with something, but to my
knowledge, nothing is available yet.
The Academy's HIPAA Compliance CD package was developed by a prominent
DC law firm. This law firm developed a similar package for
ophthalmologists. The product is basically a road map that will help you
reach the compliance stage. A specialist will be available to purchasers
of this product to answer simple inquires free of charge.
