To my BOC colleagues,

I read the email to Joan K. Cestaro, C.P. concerning the initials of CO, CP & CPO stating that in 1985 BOC agreed not to use these (or BOCO, BOCP etc.) for BOC certified practitioners. The BOC web page says:

BOC offers four certification programs:
· BOC Orthotist
· BOC Prosthetist
· Certified Orthotic Fitter (COF)
· Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF)

which includes no initials at all for orthotists or prosthetists, though BOC Orthotist is certainly direct and perhaps clearer to the public than CO.

ARE there BOC-approved initials for your certifications? If so, what are they?

Respectfully,
Daniel Watkins CPO

Joan, as part of the 1985 consent decree, BOC agreed not to use CO,
Certified Orthotist, or anything similar in the US or Canada. The use
of BOCO was also challenged by the ABC and the BOC agreed not to use it
either. The person that said that he was a CO by BOC was mistaken or he
is dual accredited. The titles CO, CP, and CPO are the property of the
ABC and can only be used by individual currently accredited by them.
Any other use is a misrepresentation.
